The Perfect Conditions for Mold Growth

Mold spores are always in the air, both indoors and outdoors. They are invisible to the naked eye and only become a problem when they land on damp surface and find the right conditions to grow.

The longer moisture remains, the deeper mold can grow and the more damage it can cause.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can mold really begin growing in just one or two days?

Yes. Under the right conditions, mold can begin growing within 24 to 48 hours after water damage. Warm temperatures, moisture, and organic building materials create an ideal environment for mold to develop quickly.

Is mold always visible?

No. Mold often grows in hidden areas behind drywall, under flooring, inside cabinets, attics, crawl spaces, or behind insulation. By the time visible mold appears, moisture may have been present for some time.

Does every wet area develop mold?

Not necessarily. Mold requires moisture, a food source, suitable temperatures, and enough time to grow. If affected materials are dried thoroughly and quickly, the risk of mold can often be greatly reduced.

Can I simply clean mold with bleach?

Bleach may remove mold from some hard, non-porous surfaces, but it does not always eliminate mold growing inside porous materials like drywall, insulation, or wood. The most important step is correcting the moisture problem, because mold will often return if the source of moisture isn't addressed.
